Often, after spending 12 hours sticking a camera in the face of a bride and groom, we have the privilege of getting to know them and calling them friends. This wedding wasn’t one of those.
Judy and Martin are some of our favourite people in the whole world. We’ve known them for many years, and ended up not only shooting their wedding, but also being a bridesmaid and groomsmen.
Mart had popped the question at the top of Kilimanjaro, and on their return we set about showing them our favourite places to be married. One of our all time favourite places is Mina’s at Zwakala, in a little sleepy town called Haenertsburg, Limpopo. Its a bit of a drive, with a lot of mud and some dodgy roads but its totally worth it! Set up on the hill surrounded by forests this little converted potato shed always encourages people to let their hair down and take in the beauty of the day. We first were introduced to Haenetsburg by Andrew + Savannah, an equally lovely couple with a similar vibe.
Judy and Martin’s wedding was a beautiful reflection of who they are as people. Relaxed and humble, with a good love for family and friends. The starters and desserts were all lovingly made by their mothers and sisters. Homemade upside down pineapple cake, date balls and carrot cake. Pizza was served for dinner from the local favourite (Pot and Plough). The flowers, flower crowns and boutonnieres were hand crafted by Emma and Nicky on the morning of the wedding, and all the great little stationery pieces were put together by Paper Jet.
It was such an honor to be part of this day, and to capture it in photographs! We are so stoked to continue to see this story play out and be part of their lives.
Ps. Be sure to watch the photo booth video at the bottom of this post. Its awesome sauce and one of our all time favourites!
Derryn and Terence, our favourite videographers from Orpen Films made this lovely film of the weekend.
